About the artist

My work aims to bring art and imagination into the everyday lives of those who see it. It is the function of art that brings works into everyday interaction and allows us to interact with art and reconnect with the childlike wonder so many of us struggle to find in the mundane. Through my work, I provide enjoyment and wonder to others, and it is through art that we can connect with both the world around us and our imaginations.

I predominantly work in functional and sculptural ceramics and aim to create art that uplifts and brings joy to those interacting with it. The functionality of ceramics and its perception of craft has allowed for the medium to be undervalued for centuries. However, through functional work, art becomes accessible to those who would otherwise be unable to afford art due to its high cost.

Biography

Rebecca Jogan is a ceramicist born and raised in central Ohio, currently living in Cincinnati Ohio. She attends the University of Cincinnati where she studies Ceramics and Sculpture with a minor in Art History. She first started her artistic career dancing competitively from the age of 5, but when an injury halted her ability to dance she discovered her love for ceramics and visual arts as a creative outlet. In 2020 she began her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Art History at the University of Cincinnati where she is currently working to improve her technical skills and develop new ceramic techniques.

Rebecca Jogan has since begun displaying her work in student showcases as well as working with various companies during CoOp to expand her technical skills. First working with LifeFormations here in Cincinnati OH she worked alongside the plastics department to craft larger-than-life sculptures and scenic elements for themed entertainment companies around the world. Most recently she completed a CoOp at UC’s very own Ceramics Lab where she worked with staff and students to develop healthy lab practices and encourage experimentation.
